Rainbow bright

We all love a classic blue sapphire, of course, but this traditional September birthstone actually comes in almost every color of the rainbow, making it one of the most versatile gemstones in fine jewelry.

Every sapphire belongs to the same mineral family, corundum. While trace elements create the classic blue color, different natural minerals produce an entire spectrum of hues—from soft blush pink to sunny yellow, dreamy lavender, fresh green, peachy orange, and even crisp white.

Fun fact: any corundum that's not red is considered a sapphire. (Red corundum gets its own famous name: ruby.)

Long thought to inspire wisdom, loyalty, and protection in its wearer, sapphires are a beautiful gemstone that's also durable enough for daily wear. It's a perfect gemstone if you're looking to infuse your engagement ring with a bit of color, or just want a piece that's a bit more playful.
